the things that go through my head

Come with me

Jailbreaking

leave a comment »

There are a lot of cool things you can do with a jailbroken iPhone. The one thing I’ve noticed is that the longer you have your phone without a jailbreak the more you’ll appreciate the jailbreak later on. The iPhone is limited in a lot of different features compared to other phones. When you have had the phone for a while you start to think “I wish I could do this but can’t” that’s when jailbreaking makes sense. There were really cool features released with ios4 that only existed on Cydia (the jailbroken version of the AppStore) before it was released in june and now come default on the phone which is nice. The cool things you can do with a jailbreak are customize your phone,
download and change themes, colors throughout the phone, cool apps that let you control your phone (sbsettings allows you to turn off 3G and location, control brightness without having to go into settings), tweaks like safari downloaded and email attachment saver let you save documents on your phone like a computer and can be managed with iFile. There are other apps that also free your phone: My3G allows you to use FaceTime over 3G and watch youtube videos in wifi quality as well as bypassing the 10mb cap on downloads in iTunes. You can also download paid AppStore apps using a program called installous for free (I don’t use this because I get paranoid when downloading paid apps for free).

The only downside right now is that not all the apps, tweaks, and themes have been updated to work with ios4 and the iPhone 4. Some of them are only compatible with 3.x because the developer hasn’t gotten around to updating their code. Hope this answers some questions, if you have more just ask. (it’s a lot easier to show someone what can be done rather than write about it :)

Update:

After playing with my phone some other notable apps are Lockinfo that let’s you manage your messages, email, twitter, view missed calls and view events coming up in your calendar.

Also quickreply is pretty cool, it allows you to respond to text messages anywhere on the phone (it’s a little buggy on 4.0 but the basic function still works.) and there are other apps that do this and are a little more advanced and feature rich like bitesms.

One, Probably two more days to go

leave a comment »

It is now Friday and our trip is slowly coming to an end, we are now in Arizona heading to the Grand Canyon which will probably be our last “worth noting site.”  (we might make a little stop in Vegas) It was been pretty difficult to keep this blog up to date, with driving more than 12 hours the past couple of days. It’s difficult to find time when you get to campsites in the AMs. It was easier when all are stops were within a couple hundred miles, not 3-4 times that. So I still have Niagara Falls pictures to put up and Grand Canyon pictures after today. These past two weeks have definitely been an adventure and I’m almost home :)

Washington D.C. (The coolest thing I’ve ever experienced) *EDIT/UPDATE

with one comment

Today was by far one of the best experiences of my life. I was able to see things in person that I’ve only seen in movies/TV or have read about. It was a surreal experience and I’m very grateful to have experienced it, there’s not really more to say; the pictures speak volumes. (Sorry Nikki Andrew wanted me to put up the last picture so please don’t be mad at me :) )

EDIT/UPDATE: I really didn’t understand the full potential of these pictures until i uploaded them from the computer and not the iPhone. For some reason when you upload them from the iPhone it shows a clickable picture on the blog but when you do that the larger version comes out very pixelated and that isn’t good when dealing with photography. IT DOESN’T DO THESE PHOTOS JUSTICE! So I will be gradually swapping them out with improved pictures! Upside, better looking pictures. Downside a lot more scrolling up and down the page. I’m going to try it out with a couple pictures here and posts from here on out.

Memphis, TN (Graceland and Corky’s Ribs & BBQ)

leave a comment »

As promised, these pictures are from our arrival into Tennessee and eventually into Memphis where we stopped at Graceland and took a look at Elvis’ cars. For dinner we stopped by Corky’s because we’ve seen it on the travel channel and wanted to see it if lives up to the hype; it did!

Oh and the lightning and thunder is right after the cars before dinner  and some potential Halloween costumes!

Tennessee and Wytheville, Virginia

with 2 comments

We have driven across the entire state of Tennessee into beautiful Virginia or atleast what we were able to see of it (We got in after sundown) and have arrived at probably the nicest looking KOA located in Wytheville, Virginia. I know I said that we were going to be stoping in Hershey, Pennsylvania today; well I was mistaken. We will be heading out of Virginia tomorrow morning and will be driving to Washington D.C.

From there we will be heading to Pennsylvania and then hopefully New York. Plans have been changing to accommodate the drive back home, so we might not have time to stop in planned places.

We didn’t stop for anything other than gas and rest stops but I do have some pictures I’ll be posting later today from yesterday.

Memphis, Tennessee And West Memphis, Arkansas

leave a comment »

Today we have been in four states, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Arkansas.

We stoped at Graceland, home of the late Elvis Presley and took a tour of his vehicle collection (pictures will come soon, too sleepy to upload them now). We ate dinner at Corky’s Ribs & BBQ, it was very delicious and they ship food all over the States!!! We are now at the KOA in West Memphis, Arkansas and are doing laundry.

Off to Hershey, Pennsylvania in the morning to see how chocolate is born!

Mississippi

So we stayed in New Orleans for the night, Bug Capitol of the States. One of the guys that worked at the campgrounds apparently lived in the Anaheim/Disneyland area 14 years ago and said that he was suprised by all the “alien” looking bugs when he made the move out here. Lets just say we kind of didn’t want to get out of the RV!

We woke up around 7AM and got ready to go on swamp tour. One where you go on a fan powered raft/boat and they take you around looking at crocodilian, more bugs and whatever else that you can find in a swamp, sounds exciting right? Well, we got there at 9AM in time for their first tour only to find out they were starting at 12PM today :(

There was really nothing to do for three hours so we just decided to make our way to Memphis Tennessee and of course, we had to pass through beautiful Mississippi first and here is a little from that.

Mississippi has some of the greenest freeways I’ve ever seen, very relaxing. And finally making an appearance for the first time on the blog Nikki, Andrew, and I (and no suprise, Andrew and I getting ready to fight).

New Orleans

So we drove into downtown passing the Super Dome (doesn’t look that super) and were able to find parking for the RV only a couple blocks from Bourbon Street in the French Quarter. (And yes mom I got you a postcard and should be on it’s way to you :D )

Bourbon street wasn’t really what I expected it to be, it seemed as though it was beautiful at one time in history but has since lost it’s glamour. It was still a very cool place to see and the Cajun food wasn’t bad either; on to Memphis.

Louisiana

So today was a very eventful day, a change from the past couple desert filled days. The heat has now been replaced with humidity. Its been raining the past couple days and luckily we missed it; there are still plenty clouds though. I drove the RV today, it was quite a feat with the wind and all. I drove the better part of Baton Rouge to New Orleans and it was by far the most beautiful part of the drive as of yet.

I wasn’t able to get to many pictures but Andrew and Nikki did so I’ll hopefully be posting those later.
